I got together with Thijs Honingh, Geert Bosch and Rene Nieuwenburg to further test and debate the One Drop Cube. Thijs essentially crushed us twice with Death's Shadow and recursion: nobody can deal with quad Death's Shadows... Afterwards we altered Blue again, removing half the countermagic, to include only the 'really good' ones. If this doesn't pan out we're going to try the Mill approach. White, Red and Green appear to be where we like them to be, we are worried however that Black might be the best color by a wide margin. We'll see how it develops.

The seventh Qualifier already? Oh my! That puts us over the hill! Things are about to get serious...

I kid, of course. To business!

Cenne Stavenuiter blinks his way to 3-0 a record. Facing off against Thijs Honingh in the Finals, after defeating Rene Nieuwenburg in the Semi and Cedric van Oene in Round 1. Thijs had to get past Rob Beekman (Round 1) and Mattias Kres (Semi) to make it to the Finals. With three attendees already Qualified for CubeVitational 2013 I was a concerned how pairing might pan out, but I worked out fantastically. They almost immediately paired against each other at the same side of the bracket. On top of it all, we didn't tell Cenne before playing Qualified Thijs and Cenne just crushed him anyhow!

And the winner is ... me !?!

Thomas Krone beat Hylke Faber (WB Midrange) and Thomas Brom (BUG Tempo) on his way to the final where he faced Ewan van Houten, who in turn had beaten Merrin Hondius (4c Special) and Geert Bosch (Grixis Value). Thomas beats Ewan in an unlucky final: Ewan flooded and Thomas had all the answers for the threats Ewan did draw.

Last minute contender Ruud Warmenhoven runs the table with a Grixis value concoction! He had beaten Jan Hootsmans and Tijs de Kler to play the final against Johan van der Beek, who in turn had beaten Eef van Veelen and Peter Florijn.

Merrin Hondius drafted the One Drop Cube for the first time twice last monday. Crushing us in the second flight with this insano ensemble. Picking his brain afterwards led to a profound change in the make-up of Blue. All bounce has been removed to make way for more countermagic. Also there was a change in the Equipment, adding more that boost toughness. You can find the update here.

So far I've been a bit underwhelmed. A handful of maybes and that's it. What do you think?

Bought a Mishra's Workshop.

De facto making a trade happen that would never happen in real life. It's not in very good shape, but you get what you pay for and I was specifically looking a banged up version. They cost significantly less and I'm not looking to trade it away later on, so I am very VERY pleased!

Daan Pruijt, Runner-Up of CubeVitational 2012, strikes early for next year! His UWb Control makes slow work of the field.

Ewan van Houten and Thomas Brom tried their hand at Cubing for the second time. Their decks were much more focused than last time, but they still had to face off in the so called losers final. Hylke Faber beat Ewan and Floris de Haan 2-0 both, only to lose to Daan in the Finals. 2012 Champ Mattias Kres lost to Daan in Round 2. Rene Niewenburg and Thomas Krone, as well as Mattias and Floris, fought for a positive record in the last round. Mattias outraces Floris, while Thomas outcontrols Rene.
