Monday November 7th we will kick-off the CubeVitational 2012 Qualifiers. Starting next week we will have a monthly Qualifier. That's right! All monday night 2 Klaveren Cube Drafts are now Qualifiers. They will run all the way through to next summer. Feeding the CubeVitational 2012, which once again is planned for September, with 11 spots.

So why does this result make me happy?
Well, not only did someone win who wasn't already Qualified, it was Dutch super-Judge Teun Zijp! He battled his way through two other would be Qualifiers and he did so using an RB Land Destruction Deck, playing cards like Stone Rain maindeck. Which brings me to another reason I'm happy: I have been pushing this mechanic a bit and failed to draft good decks with it myself. Teun however crushed yesterday's Qualifier with ease on the back of powerhouses like Smokestack and Yawgmoth's Will. He even ran Rise//Fall. Furthermore, there were almost no Blue cards in the top4 and that seems like a good sign to me, considering all the work I've put into the Cube since most top4's comprised mostly of Blue cards. Okay, I admit some degree of Blue cards in yesterday's top4 might have been more balanced, but still I'm happy that deck like RB and BG are back to posting reseults. I'll stop my gushing now...
Congrats to Teun. I hope that things work out and that he'll be able to attend CubeVitational 2011 next saturday.
Which leads me to the last four Invites to CubeVitational 2011 that are to be given away. I have decided to use half these Invites to extend the Rating Cut. As such two of these invites will be awarded to Peter and Jan. Jan lost his second (or third?) Qualifier Final yesterday so I'm glad that his good results overall still alliow me to Qualify him. The other two Invites will be for Quirijn, my longtime Magicbuddy, and myself, since I've failed to win a Qualifier and did away with the lopsided Ranking system.

Well, there you have it. A new year, a new logo, a new format.
This year's CubeVitational will be a bit closer to summer than last year. Cubing is just more fun in the summer!
Because of that I aim to cram an entire Qualifier season into six months!
The first Double Qualifier will be held on March 21st in De 2 Klaveren: A 16man draft split into two 8mans will qualify two people. At this time I cannot say for sure when the other Qualifiers will be, because of a pending job offer. What I can divulge however is that I will run a 16man 2HG draft that will qualify the winning team!
The CubeVitational 2011 will probably be held somewhere near the end if August and is a 16man tournament:
The first three rounds will be two 8man drafts. For round four through six all people with a positive record will advance to table-A, while the eight drafters with a negative record will advance to table-B, for another two 8man drafts. Table-A will place all drafters with a positive record, except the one who lost the first round, in the Final 4, supplemented by the 3-0 player from table-B. These four player will play Sealed or something-Rochester to determine the CubeVitational 2011 Champ.

Owwright! Finally the 12th of december is here!
All my Cube-related efforts this past year have been culminating towards this point. This site, qualifiers, ranking, rating, in short everything. As you can imagine I was pretty psyched. When the 14 contestants realised I had arranged for actual trophies and that Peter had been so kind to donate 30 booster packs as prizes they were even more psyched.
The following players were qualified:
The 14 players were divided over two tables of seven for a regular booster draft. The tournament was a 5 round Swiss style tournament, cut to a Top4 cascade draft. After the 4 rounds of Swiss it was clear that the four leaders could draw into the Finals.
