In the drafting portion of the event, i kinda drafted for fun mostly. I knew 13 card boosters meant less powerfull decks, and less time to pickup mana fix.

Well, i'll let you know, that didnt stop me from slamming my Big Buddy Bolas 3rd pick, and go for a nice und greedy deck in the first draft ;)
But lucky as i am, i got away with two times 2-1, and that 4-2 record apparently was good enough for t4. Hurray, a chance to defend the Crown of the Cube King!

T4 was sealed, and personally, i found that a bit of a let down, it seems that that leaves a lot to luck with your pool. Oh boy, was i right in that...

I opened a pretty decent 2 color deck with two swords and a library, and i was pretty content with my pool. I proceeded to crush Daan in the semi-finals, and was rewarded by seeing last year runner up Elmer in the finals again.

    And there the hurting began...
It migth be an understatement to say he opened a bit better than me. He had a sword in his sideboard because it didnt make the cut...
He had a recuring nightmare/survival combo.
He could combo infinte turns, and tutor it up with Liliana Vess.
He could put you into a stripmine lock with crucible of worlds.
And to top it off, with a nice array of CIT creatures (2 card draw, 3 creature kill, and a witness), he had a prety decent base of operations, fully abusable with recuring nightmare. Eeeks...

    Needles to say, i lost.

Game 1 started off with me on the play, but Elmer had a t2 crucible on his side, followed by a stripmine.
I tried to destroy the crucible, but it was regrowthed, and i ended the game with very few permanents on the board...

Game 2 started a bit slow, but soon i had some butcher/eratic portal shenanigans going, keeping Elmer out of creatures. However, since i had to set up that combo, i didnt have much time to really dent his life total.
The game went down the hill after a t7 Skyswallower, followed by a t8 Lilana Vess and a timewalk. And he failed to see that at that point, he had unlimited turns. But taking 2 in a row was good enough, since i couldnt do much, and went down to the big flying menance.

So, I crowned Elmer the new Cube King! Let he be a worthy ruler!

Thanx all for playing in the most fun competion out there ;)
